Queer Design Club

I’m a multidisciplinary designer passionate about visual storytelling + empowering others to express their true identity and culture. Inspired by collaboration and a dreamlike approach, I design publications, custom typography, and brand identities.

This thesis is a response to the deep-rooted inequities embedded within the history and systems of type design. It explores how typography can serve not only as a visual form but as a cultural and political tool, one capable of resisting erasure, reclaiming voice, and preserving language. Through this work, I examine the ways in which type design has historically excluded non-Western scripts and marginalized communities, while also spotlighting the inclusive practices of women, Indigenous, Black, and LGBTQ+ designers who are actively reshaping the field. At the heart of this project is a critical analysis of Unicode and the digital infrastructure that governs written communication in contemporary life. I interrogate the limitations of these systems and trace how design history has often prioritized the Latin alphabet, marginalizing countless other scripts.

Modular is an editorial magazine concept celebrating the creatives reshaping electronic music and nightlife. The June 2024 debut issue of the conceptual magazine features interviews, discographies, and editorial photography of artists including POiSON ANNA, Nia Archives, Yunè Pinku, Nabihah Iqbal, Coucou Chloe, Shygirl, Eartheater, Arca, Peggy Gou, and Yaeji, who combine genres to create unique sonic worlds.

Synergy Magazine was created to highlight contemporary designers utilizing technology to ensure a sustainable future through modern fashion design. Featuring Jun Kamei’s amphibious garment engineered for an underwater future, Synergy Magazine emphasizes the importance of biomimetic design, which is the design and production of materials, structures, and systems that are modeled on biological entities and processes.

How does being queer inform your work?

I create the world I would like to see through art and design. I strive to create work that represents the queer individuals around me in my daily life and reflective of my experiences as a lesbian and non-binary person. I challenge traditional perceptions of gender and sexuality through illustration and incorporate queer history and accessible design theory into my work as well.

What are your favorite pieces of queer visual culture?

My favorite piece of queer visual culture is protest typography as well as retro flyers and graphic posters from 1990s queer nightlife.
