How does being queer inform your work?

Being queer deeply informs how I approach design with intention, empathy, and a refusal to settle for clichés. I believe design has the power to change lives, and as a queer creative, I’m drawn to telling stories from perspectives that are often overlooked. Instead of defaulting to stereotypes, I challenge myself to design through a more inclusive and human lens. Where authenticity and impact matter more than assumptions.

What are your favorite pieces of queer visual culture?

One of my favorite pieces of queer visual culture is “Lluvia con nieve” by Sofía Gallisá Muriente. The way she overlays Puerto Rican archival footage with a holiday jingle meant for snow on an island that never sees snow creates this haunting, surreal commentary on cultural erasure and imposed identity. As a queer Boricua, I deeply relate to that tension of living between realities what we’re told we should be and what we actually are. Her work reminds me that visuals can challenge colonized narratives, and as a designer, that inspires me to create with truth, memory, and resistance in mind.

Which other queer people inspire you?

SO MANY!! Just a few names: Mickalene Thomas, Debbie Millman, Roxanne Gay.
